Phonics, Reading Schemes and Topics
Riverview Infant School use the National Curriculum to plan their work for the children. Details of the excellent learning within the curriculum, that takes place at Riverview Infant School, can be found on Long Term Plans overviews.
A Timetable for each Year Group highlights what the children will be learning in each subject that term. Expectations of learning, knowledge and understanding are made clear in each document.
In Key Stage 1, the children are taught phonics through the main scheme of Jolly Phonics supplemented by Letters and Sounds. Parents can support learning at home by accessing some of the songs and rhymes via YouTube.
The main reading scheme used throughout the school is The Oxford Reading Tree and again is supplemented by other schemes and texts including non-fiction texts. The school library is used by all of the class teachers and children are encouraged to change books from it to take home and share with their parents.
The Headteacher and teachers are more than happy to answer any questions about the National Curriculum topics, content and expectations and appointments can be made via the school office.
